"Get Involved, is a spot where you can find out what's happening at Saint Patrick - Saint Michael for you. Youth Ministry is not only about the Church ministering to you but also about YOU ministering to the world as THE YOUNG CHURCH.
You are the YOUNG Catholic Church...Get Involved!

Youth Mass is held on Sunday evenings and are scheduled for: March 1st & 15, April 5 &19, May 3 & 17, June 21, July 19, August 16, September 6 & September 20, October 4 & 18, and November 1 & 15.

The point of Youth Mass is that the youth of Saint Patrick and Saint Michael are the key players in bringing the congregation together by partipating and leading in key roles of the liturgy.

How can youth be involved in this Mass?

* By being a part of the Hospitality Team: This team greets people at the doors and helps them feel like they belong by:

A) Showing them they are needed and belong by saying hello and welcome.(Greeters)

B) Giving them what they need for Mass by providing them with a worship aid and bulletin.

C) Helping them find a place to sit. (Ushers)

D) If a fellowship event (refreshments) follows Mass, this team is responsible for setting up the parish hall, decorating, and serving refreshements.

* Be a part of Mass Band. The music offered at Youth Mass needs:

A) Teens with strong voices to sing which will invite others in the congregation to participate in song. Please note: Mass Band doesn't perform, rather Mass Band LEADS.
B) Teenage Musicians who can play guitar (both acoustic and electric), piano, drum set, etc.
C) Teenagers willing to be a Psalmist...which means someone who PROCLAIMS the Psalm which is sung and read in between the First and Second reading.

* Be a reader which includes:

A) Commentator: This teenager welcomes the congregation once they are seated and informs them what the focus of the Mass is for a particular Sunday as well as concludes the Mass with announcements.

B) Lectors: One teenager who reads the First Reading and/or the Second Reading.

C) An individual pair of teens who read the "Prayers of the Faithful"; known commonly as petitions which generaly end with the phrase / response, "Lord Hear Our Prayer."

*Eucharistic Ministers of the Body and Blood: These teenagers help distrubute the Body and Blood of Jesus and must be Confirmed members of the community. This is a wonderful ministry and we invite all Confirmed youth to consider this role at Youth Mass.

*Altar Servers: We need altar servers not just for Youth Mass, but also for the 4:45pm and 10:00am Masses at Saint Patrick Church. Any older youth who have previous experience should really step up to the plate and help us celebrate Mass through this very important role. Any youth Grade 4 + with interest should contact Karla Lehr ASAP: 608-592-3969.

Mission Trips and NCYC

Mission Trips to areas in the United States that need Christ through service happen every other year. Our next Mission Trip will take place Summer 2010. Last year April Taylor, Bryce Dollard, Paul Jozwick, and I went to Chicago and were part of a workgroup with some teens from Saint Albert the Great Church (Sun Prairie). It was an incredible experience in which we worked at Eden Place, once an illegal dump, now an educational nature preserve that teaches inner-city Chicago families about nature, home farming, and the importance of community organizing. Championed by the Howard family, this project helps break the cycle of gang violence and brings the surrounding neighborhood together as a family.

The High School Mission Trip Pictures: Chicago Summer 2008

NCYC, National Catholic Youth Conference, takes place every two years (Coming Up Nov. 2009!)and is simply one of the best experiences teenagers can have. Not only are tens of thousands of teens from around the country gathered in one spot for a weekend of music, inspiritation, service, games and youth fellowship, amazing speakers, worship, but also provides teens and adult leaders involved a much needed view of the large Catholic family that we belong to. Saint Patrick -Saint Michael would like to join others from the Diocese on a road trip by coach bus to Kansas City, Missouri. We will initially hold 10 spots so if your interested call the Youth Ministry office ASAP: 608-592-5711. For a taste of NCYC watch the NCYC 2009 Promotional video below and talk to Paul Jozwiak, Ben McMahon, Janelle Krummen, Janell Breunig, or Emily Clemens. Don't miss out on this chance to grow deeper in our faith!

Resurrection Rally Friday January 30 - Sunday February 1st 2009

For High School Youth, this weekend retreat counts as a Six-Week mini-course and might be a great option as a Spring course if Wednesday nights are not compatible with your schedule (though Wednesdays are supposed to be Church night) or perhaps you just need a weekend of great music, speakers, food, and a chance to make new friends. Don't miss out on this year's rally featuring Jesse Manibussen, one of the funniest, kindest, and most guitar-talented performers you'll EVER have a chance to meet. If you'd like to go, but are still wondering, "What is this weekend for? What will it be like?" Well you can start with the video below or talk to Jackie Barrette, Ryan Robertson, Steve Clemens, Gabe Newberry, Joe Halley, Sam Paque, or Katie Brisky.
